Dollhouse Shoot: How it Came to Life

So after being in the studio all night and doing post work until 4am for no reason besides my weird sleep schedule as usual [thank god my roommate laura, model you see] I have finished!

This is one image which will become a diptych like all of my senior project finals.

Here is how it happened.

My 4 year old sister got a three story doll house for christmas:
The first thing I said when I was it was "I am going to photograph this" So I set up my lights before I left for school and took a shot knowing I was going to do compositing with it later.

So I shot Laura today, yep killed her, at Bergen as a Barbie doll.

I was only planning on having one "Barbie" in the composite; however, once I got retouching I decided I wanted to play with hair color and multiple barbies since all Barbies are the same only with different color hair and dresses.

And here again is the final image.

and obviously since I spent so much time on her makeup I had to do a close up.

Thanks for being a trouper Laura!

TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN BY MY HOUSE!

A Tornado hit my my house in Huntsville, Alabama tonight!!!!

This is a photo from Across from my parents restaurant. Near my house lots and lots of dammage surrounding my house! My dad was outside and heard the "Train" and BOLTED into the house in the basement he said it was the most bizarre feeling outside ever!

This is one street over from my house!!! We were so fortunate to have no damage and no lost lives! My step mom had just went to the grocery which is a walk away from our house...literally right before it hit...my dad ran over their after the tornado had hit..they were in shelter in the freezer! It wasn't raining or anything can you see the blue sky? People were wondering why the sirens were going off!! WEIRD DAY! VERY THANKFUL TODAY!!!!
The house directly behind us had its porch ripped off tons of trees down another house nearly demolished next door....lots of damage!

BUBBLE GUM EVERYWHERE!

I had finished my product shot and was waiting for my model to show up so I could do her hair and make up. Gotta love turning the classroom into a studio. Please note my Pepsi throw back can....made me so happy!

Here are some images from this weekend. Information is below.

My senior project is consisting of a product shot with a model and finding a creative way of showing the product without having the brand name.
So this week it was bubble gum.

The blue seamless was actually found in the trash next to my friends apt on Thursday. Fantastic find right? So Friday I went on the hunt to find the items I would use in my bubblegum shoot. I knew I was using the blue seamless and obviously had to accentuate the color pink. So I walked around Michael's craft store for nearly 2 hours brainstorming and waiting for things to jump out and inspire me, as I always do. And well this is what came of it. Took me a while to find the gum I was looking for, who knew such a common gum was changing in style right now. Well I finally found what I was looking for the morning of the shoot and bought $15.00 worth of this gum, I nearly bought all of it.

It was a fun great shoot with my roommate, I had to use her she is a bubbly beautiful person with adorable dimples, perfect right? I think so. I also had a lot better luck using my airbrush makeup this shoot which was such a relief! Her skin took beautifully to it!

Also this was my first time in the studio this quarter using SCAD's new Prophoto strobes, which are brilliant. I love the way the attachments go off and on, no more CLICK! Brilliant. I was also happy I pulled of this shoot with two lights, medium softbox and a 5 grid spot.

So this quarter I am in love with vivid colors, now on to planning my next shoot....what product to use, what product to use? That is the question!

Oh also the model's boyfriend showed up on set and I snapped some adorable photos of the happy couple! If only it were planned so we could get him a different shirt!

OH! I finally started a Flikr account; I thought it was appropriate.

GAGA & Polaroid

Lady Lady GaGa Named Creative Director at Polaroid See Here.

I really do not understand where the negativity is coming from. She is a very innovative performer/artist and I think she can only bring good things to Polaroid.

Interview with a Vampire: I mean Photographer.

In doing research for my "interview a professional" assignment,
I came across this great interview: I suggest you read it.

Q&A with EP President Brian Smith, President of Editorial Photographers

Excerpted from "The Art and Commerce of Magazine Photography"
Presented to ASMP Washington DC on September 11, 2007

Q: Years ago Greg Heisler was quoted in PDN as saying "I think you will find that most of the magazine assignments are given to friends of the photo editors." Is this still true? How important are relationships?

I suppose that must mean that Gregory has friends in higher places than I do...but seriously...I think it's less a case of being buddies with your editors and more important that you're someone they know they can count on to produce a great photo without fail no matter what forces conspire against you.

[love that answer]

And the Blogging Starts

Figured I would jump on the blog wagon.

True Life: My room is a prop closet.

I figured for blog I would share some photos of my room that has literally turned into a prop closet. I started collecting outfits from thrift stores, consignment shops and such in 2008 as I started to develop my "photographic style." Chicago was definitely the best thrift store shopping experience. However, you never know what you are going to find. For example I have two dresses that retailed for $700.00 and purchased them for $35.00[both in Louisiana actually] needless to say I did a happy dance each time.

47 dresses.

And here is my roommate and favorite model hanging out in the living room.

We decided to leave the living room like this after setting it up for a shoot yesterday. Here is an image.
